“The landlord failed to inform me this was an Oompah-Loompa half-way house – moving in I realised that all the hooks were at midriff height. Maybe the more I hit my head off the ceiling I’ll slowly shrink down to the requisite height. Maybe that’s what happened to my predecessor. Maybe he or she is still there, a Thumbelina scurrying about the place, too tiny for the eye to see. Maybe that’s what’ll happen to me.”
Paines Plough invited 61 playwrights from 14 cities across the UK to write (and perform) monologues about their home towns, the cities that shaped them.
The Newcastle-leg was performed at Live Theatre on Saturday 19 June 2010.
