Anyone Who Had A Heart

Wednesday, April 28th, 2010

Sometimes a project comes along that is so mind-bendingly simple in its premise you wonder why no one thought of it before.

PLAYlist is one such concept. A night of plays inspired by music. Sounds straightforward enough. But then – the plays must be no longer than the piece of music that inspired them! Whaaaat?!!?

Sometimes there is a theme imposed. Sometimes not – in which case it’s a PLAYlist: Shuffle.

My play Heart Shaped Hole has been selected to be part of the next Shuffle line-up.

It was inspired by Anyone Who Had A Heart by Cilla Black. (A song so damn catchy it stays with you forever – finally an explanation to friends and family as to why I’ve been humming it for the past month or so!)

Directed by Steve Harper, it’s on at Theatre503 in Battersea, London on Saturday 8 May @ 7.45pm. Click [here] for ticket details.

It’s all very, very exciting.

All together now …

“Anyone who ever dreamed could look at me, and know I dream of youuuu. Knowing I love you. So! …”

The line-up in full for PLAYlist: Shuffle 8/5/10:

  • Weapon of Choice by Andrew Keatley
  • Re:Stacks by Alice Birch
  • Neighbourhood by Tom Morton Smith
  • The Geese of Beverley Road by Daniel Kanaber
  • Curvature by Kenny Emerson
  • All The Babies Look The Same by Daniel Smith
  • Farewell Transmission by Pamela Carter
  • Polaroids by Rosalind Wyllie [my Blood & Money co-writer, it’s a small world!]
  • Heart Shaped Hole by … me!

Eyjafjallajökull fails to halt preview performance over 1000 miles away. Phew.

Some [shots] from Thursday night’s rehearsed reading preview performance/fundraiser of Blood & Money at The People’s Theatre in Heaton.

There was a great turn out – the support was fantastic. A massive thank you to everyone who came along and donated so generously.

Thank you to The People’s Theatre for hosting the event; to Steve, Peter, Sheila, Jerry and Sally.

With all this lovely weather it is very tempting to abandon the keyboard in favour of wandering around the park with an ice-cream. But no. Plays don’t write themselves (sadly) and Prague Festivals to not attend themselves. So. Down to business …

Blood & Money will be previewed as a rehearsed reading at The People’s Theatre in Heaton (off the Coast Road, next to the Cornerhouse pub) on Thursday 22 April @ 8pm. Entry is free. Tickets can be obtained by emailing bloodandmoney.prague@gmail.com in advance, or on the door from 7.30pm. This is a fundraising event, with all proceeds going towards production costs – so any donations gratefully received on the night.

On the topic of Blood & Money, the new poster design is in …

Click on it to see it in all its glory – thanks to Daniel Stone for the design. Thanks also to Christine Charlton for the original ‘bucket’ image we used for publicity]

And one last thing while I’m on, the Prague Fringe Festival 2010 website is up and running, with the full programme online and details on buying tickets. Click [here] for a look-see …
